A SMALL NEOLITHIC PAINTED RED POTTERY JAR
GANSU/YANGSHAO CULTURE, BANSHAN PHASE, 2ND HALF 3RD MILLENIUM B.C.

The high-shouldered body tapering to a flat foot and painted with a wide band of criss-cross panels outlined in brownish-red and filled with black segments with serrated edges, separated by sections of fishnet pattern, all within black borders and below three narrow bowstring bands, the cylindrical neck with lipped rim decorated with serrated and fishnet bands and applied with two pierced tabs with scalloped edges positioned above loop handles at mid-body, chip to base 6in. (15.3cm.) high
