A YUEYAO MODEL OF A RAM
WESTERN JIN DYNASTY, 3RD/4TH CENTURY

Modeled in a recumbent position with legs tucked under the full, rounded body, with incised lines, possibly suggesting wings on either side behind the front haunches, a small tail curled up the back, the well-detailed head pierced on top with a circular apeture and crisply modeled with bulging eyes and large ears flaring out from under the coiled horns, the nose, eyes, ears, tail and legs painted in a dark iron-brown contrasting against the grayish-olive glaze, small chips to horns, ear and mouth
