The deep, rounded sides rising from a tapered foot to the everted rim carved on the exterior with a band of petals, the interior decorated in raised relief with a scaly dragon leaping amidst three clouds in pursuit of a flaming pearl, all under a glaze of soft sea-green color thinning to buff on the raised areas and edges, the slightly convex base similarly glazed, kiln flaw

Lot Essay

It is unusual to find a dish of this type with the dragon leaping amidst three clouds as opposed to the usual one or two. For a dish with three clouds, but the more usual carved foliate scroll in the well, see the dish of slightly larger size (42cm.) illustrated by Regina Krahl, Chinese Ceramics in the Topkapi Saray Museum, vol.
