EDO PERIOD (19TH CENTURY), SIGNED SHUNSHOSAI AND SEALED SHUN
Constructed in the form of a bird cage of oval section resting on four bracket feet decorated in iro-e togidashi with two cockerels and two hens in the cage fashioned with raised gold lacquer ribs and red lacquer tassels, the bottom section of the cage roiro inlaid in aogai with a dense diaper pattern and with two shaped gold and red lacquer panels of phoenixes, the interior cases nashiji; fitted with a wood netsuke carved in the form of a horse and a coral bead ojime--3in. (7.5cm.) high
