Of oval section decorated in iro-e takamaki-e on a gold ground embellished with kirigane, hiramaki-e and hirame with a continuous scene from Shitakiri suzume (The Tongue-cut Sparrow) where three sparrows welcome the old man, seen coming over the hills, to their tea hut in a bamboo grove, the interior cases nashiji; fitted with a small ivory ojime carved in the form of a sparrow in the clothes of a young girl--3 3/8in.
