EDO-MEIJI PERIOD (19TH CENTURY)
A group of three boxes comprising a rectangular box with canted corners decorated in gold takamaki-e, hirame and kirigane on a brownish black ground with autumn grasses and the moon, the moon and dots of dew on the grasses inlaid in silver, the interior of the box nashiji--3½ x 2 7/8 x 2 1/8in. (8.3 x 7.5 x 5.3cm.); a smaller rectangular box and cover lacquered in bright gold with a scene of a rustic hut under the moon and clouds from the Tale of Genji, a Genji chapter symbol in the corner of the design, the interior nashiji--2 7/8 x 1¾ x 1¼in. (7.5 x 4.5 x 3.3cm.); and an hexagonal kogo decorated in takamaki-e, hiramaki-e, hirame and various other techniques with a Chinese landscape and in the interior in nashiji--4 x 3½ x 1 3/8in.
