EDO PERIOD (19TH CENTURY)

Of rectangular form fitted with a hinged door opening to three drawers, ornamented on the four sides in togidashi and takamaki-e on a nashiji ground with large chrysanthemum florets reserved on a kikko-hanabishi ground, the top of the box lacquered in high relief with a pheasant perched on a tree stump overlooking a cliff and pine below an inlaid silver moon, all on a nashiji ground, the interior of the door and the three drawers, inside and out, nashiji; silver fittings--7¼ x 3¾ x 4 3/8in. (18.4 x 9.5 x 11.1cm.), surface nicks, short cracks and fading, wear to fittings
