MEIJI PERIOD (circa 1900)
Of rectangular form with rounded corners, decorated in iro-e takamaki-e, gyobu, fundame, inlaid coral and aogai with a large roundel of Jurojin, his deer, a crane, a pine and the large peach within a silver frame set into the background of roiro and nashiji and three clouds, the underside of the lid decorated in gold and silver takamaki-e and kirigane with rocks and cresting waves below striated clouds and a bright gold moon, the background matching the lid and continued to the lower section of the box where there are further waves; fitted with a silver crane-form mizuire and four roiro and nashiji brushes, silver rims --8½ x 10 x 2in. (21.5 x 25.5 x 5cm.)
