MEIJI PERIOD (LATE 19TH CENTURY), SIGNED MUNENARI AND WITH KAKIHAN

Of bucket form set on four splayed feet fitted with u-shaped handles and tapered rectangular lid applied with a kirin knop, worked on one side with a wooden pilings in a river and flowering branches and applied with two soft metal birds and on the other with two carp swimming in the river amidst gilded water reeds, the shorter sides decorated with gilt confronted dragons, key frets and a floral spray, the feet gilded with shield panels and the lid worked in relief with mythical beasts, clouds, flowers and a butterflies patinated in gilt and silver, fitted with a removable metal liner--7in. (17.7cm.) high
