MEIJI PERIOD, DATED 1870, SIGNED OITE HIRATA MUNEKAZU TAN
Sugata: moroha-zukuri with iori-mune; nagasa: 7 sun, 2 bu, 6 rin (22cm.); slight uchizori. Jihada: tight itame. Hamon: medium suguha in nioi and some ko-nie which become stronger in the monouchi. Boshi: hakikake. Nakago: straight, slightly tapering, slightly suriage and with a dry, brown patina; yasurime: kiri-yasuri; nakagojiri: kiri-jiri; mekugi-ana: two;
mei: oite Hirata Munekazu (kore-o) tan; jidai: Meiji 3-nen kishun (3rd month of Spring, 1870).
Aikuchi-koshirae: saya with scatter aogai and finely-cut pine needles and decorated with gilt hiramaki-e cranes in flight. Mounts in silver and elaborately carved with similar motifs: menuki in the form of hawks, kashira, kozuka and large koiguchi carved with clouds and a crane, o-kojiri carved with waves and applied with a crane on the saya above, sayadogane carved with a lone ho-o in flight above kiri, uragawara carved with waves and a gold sun; koiguchi and kozuka signed Kakuensai Yoshimune.
