Lot Essay

This chimneypiece with voluted-truss pilasters and acanthus-wrapped frieze with central table displaying a river-god mask is designed in the George II 'antique' or Palladian manner. Similar designs were published by Isaac Ware in his Designs of Inigo Jones and Others, 1731, pl. 37.
