Each gadrooned hexagonal domed lid with gilt-metal acorn over a conforming case, the frieze enclosing Vitruvian scroll and flowerheads, mounted with thee garland-cast lifting handles, on splayed tapering legs headed by rams' heads, one with lead-lined interior

Lot Essay

The design for this cooler appeared in the trade periodical, The Cabinet Maker & Art Furnisher, January 1895. Conrath's design and a cellaret identical to the offered lot are illustrated in F. Collard, Regency Furniture, 1985, p. 245. A pair of this model was sold in these Rooms, 12 October 1991, lot 176. Another was sold at Sotheby's New York, 25 April 1981, lot 153 (and cover illustration), and another illustrated in M. Jourdain, Regency Furniture, 1965, p. 85.
