A pair of cartes-de-visite photographs signed on verso ("Victoria" and "Albert"), by Mayall and Silvy respectively, Bayswater (imprint on verso), n.d. [circa 1861]. Each approximately 95 x 63 mm. (3¾ x 2./1/2 in.) including mount. Two formal portraits of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert, each signed on verso.
"A pair of matched cartes de visite: the queen by Mayall, and her consort by the master Silvy, both taken and signed (on verso) the year of Albert's death. This was the great age of the carte de visite, and Silvy made them of virtually every member of Victoria's court except the queen herself. Because Albert died at age 42, he is rare in a signed photo"--W.M. (2)
