BEARDSLEY, AUBREY (1872-98). Photograph inscribed and signed ("Aubrey Beardsley"), n.p., n.d. [circa 1896]. 303 x 250 mm. (12 x 9 7/8 in.) including margins, some light browning; matted. A large, shoulder-length portrait, inscribed: "To Mrs. [Max] Beerbohm from Aubrey Beardsley." Very rare (especially with such an interesting 1890s literary association).
"This English illustrator died of tuberculosis at twenty-six, but he had already made his mark with illustrations for Yellow Book and the Salomé of Oscar Wilde - highly stylized black-and-white drawings, drenched in eroticism and fin-de-siècle spirit"--W.M.
