Lot Essay

An identical miniature egg by Fabergé in cobalt blue enamel is in the Lillian Thomas Pratt Collection at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, (coll. no. 47.20.68), and which is illustrated on the back cover of their new publication Fabergé, 1995, but is recorded as having illegible punchmarks. Although the initials correspond to the Fabergé workmaster Alexander Wäkevä, it is doubtful he is responsible for these eggs, as he produced objects in silver.
