Fantin-Latour's floral still-life paintings were first exhibited in London at the Royal Academy in 1864. Most of Fantin- Latour's flower paintings were sold to English collectors. The Edwards' efforts enabled the artist to get through the difficult years of the Franco-Prussian War and Paris Commune, and later assured him a regular income.
