In a letter dated Aug. 31, 1981 (private communication) the attribution to Abraham Willaerts is confirmed by the Rijksbureau voor Kunsthistorische Documentatie, The Hague. Compare, for example, the artist's seascape of 1647 in the Frans Halsmuseum, Haarlem (L.J. Bol, Die Holländische Marinemalerie des 17. Jahrhunderts, 1973, p. 77, fig. 75).
