Lot Essay

The present work is a fragment of Summer, one of the Four Seasons. Though this is an unusual version of this scene from the Bassano family, two other versions of the entire painting are known; sale Sotheby's, New York, Jan. 9, 1980, lot 47 as Francesco Bassano, and a painting attributed to Leandro Bassano in the collection of O.S. Browne.
