Lot Essay

This sketch for Man at the Crossroads, documents an intermediate stage in Rivera's conception for his mural at Rockefeller Center. The composition contains elements from both the approved sketch submitted by the artist at the beginning of the project and from the mural as it stood when it was destroyed in May, 1934.
