(15 1/8 x 10 3/4 in.), contemporary mottled calf, covers wih double gilt fillet border and fleurons at corners, spine in eight gold-tooled compartments, the second lettered in gilt, g.e., rebacked, original backstrip laid down, corners restored, rubbed, upper inner hinge split, lacking last leaf blank, small hole to upper margin of frontispiece, slight marginal soiling to first few leaves, staining to fols. G4v-H2r, small faint dampstain to a few fore-margins, some minor worming at gutters, a few leaves lightly browned. FIRST EDITION, published the same year as the first French edition, 2 parts in one (part 2: Leon Battista Alberti, Della Pittura. Della Statua), each with engraved frontispiece and title vignette, engraved head- and tail-pieces and initials, and numerous engravings in the text, of which 19 after Poussin and others by Pierfrancesco Alberti.
