(12 3/4 x 8 3/4 in), early twentieth-century red velvet over wooden boards, incised brass corner-pieces, centre-pieces, clasps and and catches, 3 velvet bands across flat spine with brass attaches, blue moire silk endleaves, g.e.. joints split, lacking vol. 1 title-leaf, supplied in photographic facsimile, in vol. 2 bifolium OOO1.8 (ie., the last leaf and its conjugate) heavily restored with portions in facsimile, the two inner sheets of quire d (fols. d2-5) in vol. 1 and quire QQ in vol. 2 printed on a different paper stock (and possibly supplied from the T. Marsh 1563 edition [STC 11396.7]), marginal dampstaining to first quire, n6 and fff2 in vol. 1 each with repaired tear to lower margin catching a few letters, a few small marginal tears or repairs, a very few small wormholes, light marginal markings in red pencil, occasional staining, particularly to gutters, last few leaves in vol. 2 heavily soiled, marginal soiling throughout , washed and pressed. FIRST EDITIONS IN ENGLISH OF BOTH VOLUMES, black letter, double column, title of vol. 2 within woodcut border copied after Holbein (McKerrow & Ferguson 8), full-page woodcut arms of King Henry VIII on versos of titles, full-page arms of Pynson (McKerrow 35) on versos of final leaves, ornamental woodcut initials, spaces for initials with guide letters.
