"Dear Sir - Herewith I send you my autograph which you request. Yours Truly. A. Lincoln." During the hectic period following the election of November 6, Mary often took upon herself the duties of secretary to Lincoln. The President-elect and his wife had been in Chicago since November 21 and returned by train to Springfield on the evening of the day this letter is dated.
