WASHINGTON AND THE MOUNTAIN ROAD LOTTERY

One of the only documents in which this early form of Washington's famous signature is obtainable with any regularity. The document is a partly printed lottery ticket (No. 372) with delicate decorative typographical ornaments at left and bottom edges, and it entitles the purchaser to "...whatever Prize may happen to be drawn against its Number in the Mountain Road Lottery..."
