Lot Essay

As is typical of the early white figures produced at Bow, the present example is heavily potted and has kiln flaws. See Donald C. Peirce, English Ceramics, The Frances and Emory Cocke Collection, Atlanta, 1988, p. 104 for another example. The model itself is probably based on a Meissen prototype which would have, in turn, been based on a Chinese blanc-de-chine animal.
