The yellow animal with brown mane and tail tip standing with its left forepaw balancing on a ball painted with black vermiculé, raised on a rectangular 'table' base moulded with colourful flower garlands, the front inscribed on two oval bosses 'THE RORAN (sic) LION', some wear to edges, chips to feet

Lot Essay

After a model by the Italian sculptor Flaminio Vacca. Known as the Medici lions, it is the left-hand example of a pair which flank the entrance to the Loggia dei Lanzi in Florence.
