Lot Essay

The present holy water stoup is very Baroque in feel and has been hand modelled in much the same way as a sculptor would handle terracotta. Its origins have been ascribed to the factory at Chantilly. However, in terms of subject and modelling, it also relates to the early work produced at Nymphenburg.
