The form of these center pieces with dancing bacchantes holding the sacred thyrsus closely relates to candelabra created by Thomire in the 1820's (illustrated in H. Ottomeyer and P. Pröschel, Vergoldete Bronzen, 1986, vol. I, pp.386-387, figs. 5.16.11 and 5.16.14). A similar centerpiece by Thomire was sold Christie's London, 23 March 1989, lot 19.
