The house of Tahan was one of the foremost Parisian firms of furniture makers in the 19th century. It came into prominence under Jean-Pierre-Alexandre Tahan (1813-1892) who became an ébéniste attitré to Napoleon III. The firm produced a wide range of high quality furniture and specialized in finely crafted small objects such as the casket offered here.
