Two other pairs of this rare model are known: one pair sold Ader Picard Tajan, Paris, 17 December 1983, lot 89 and another from the collection of "Prince de X" sold Paris, 2 December 1971, lot 101. An inventory drawn up after the death of the sculpteur du Roi Antoine-François Vassé in 1736 lists "une grande grille [chenet] à dragons complète et une autre semblable, 200". In 1753, an inventory of the fermier général Martin de Lahaye, a great patron of Charles Cressent, also mentions a pair of chenêts à dragons.
