拍品專文

This watercolor replica of The Letter, opus 83, 1870 destroyed in a fire, 1875, was commissioned by Gambart as the first watercolor to be acceptable for contract. Like the earlier opus, it was undoubtedly inspired by Alma- Tadema's drawings made during his 1868 trip to Pompeii.

This watercolor will be included in the forthcomimg catalogue raisonné of works on paper by Alma-Tadema being prepared by Professor Vern G. Swanson.
