Isabey can be considered the link in marine painting between Bonington and Boudin and Jongkind. His carrer spanned from his appointment as official draughtsman for the expedition to Algeria in 1830 to his work in watercolor of the 1870's and the 1880's which heralded the arrival of Impressionism. Isabey was a regular exhibitor at the Paris Salon and also received a medal for his entry to the Exposition Universelle of 1855.
