Lot Essay

These figures are modeled after the Agathon Léonard bronzes from a series of ten figures of dancers entitled 'Jeu de l'écharpe'. The maquettes for the series were exhibited at the Salon des Beaux Arts in 1897. They were then modeled in bisque by the Sevres factory's pavilion at the 1900 Exposition Universelle. The Susse Freres foundry subsequently acquired the rights to cast the models in bronze.
