Further details
Shortly after Donald Claflin joined Tiffany & Co. in 1965, he introduced a new line of jewelry that combined gemstones with hardstones. Coral, ivory, turquoise and lapis lazuli became the integral part of a jewel, often sculpted into shapes or engraved with reeding. The illustrated brooch is an excellent example of his use of these materials. Lapis segments radiate out from the cusped lobed arch in the center. Each piece has been carved three-dimensionally and inset with gold wire to reiterate its shape.
