AN EAST GREEK SILVER VESSEL ATTACHMENT
Circa early 5th Century B.C.

Cast in the form of the upper part of man, wearing a short-sleeved garment with dotted cuffs, his arms extended in front palms down, the close-cropped ringlets of hair with angled locks along the forehead, the continuous straight brow merging with the bridge of the nose, with almond shaped eyes and striated beard and mustache, the figure emerging from a rectangular, slightly arched plate pierced on either side for attachment, presumably to the rim of a vessel, one rivet still in place
