AN ATTIC BLACK-FIGURE COLUMN-KRATER
Circa Late 6th Century B.C.
On one side a warrior steps into the chariot box of his quadriga, the reins in both hand, a goad (kentron) in his right hand, wearing a long chiton in added white, his shield slung over his shoulder, in front of the restive horses a dog wearing a collar scratches its neck, an inscription above, the other side with Dionysos holding a rhyton, a dancing maenad to his right, a maenad and a satyr to his left, with rays above the foot, both scenes framed with ivy on each side, vertical lines above, with ivy on the lip, silhouette panthers and deer on the rim, palmettes above the handles, graffiti below the foot, repaired from multiple fragmetns
