Shaped oval, on rectangular base with four ball feet, the body with faceted matte diaperwork band, with angular handle, the hinged cover with bright-cut engraved foliate band and rectangular finial, one side engraved with a fully rigged vessel with American burgee, the other with presentation inscription, marked on base

The presention inscription reads: From The New York & Columbian Insurance Companies to SAM.L GREEN Master of the Ship Polly as a Memento of his Gallantly Recapturing with the aid of a BOY his Vessel on 6th of Octr 1809 from five Frenchmen who held Possession of her as a Prize
