1932 CHRYSLER IMPERIAL CG CONVERTIBLE ROADSTER
COACHWORK BY LEBARON
Chassis No. 7803524
Engine No. CL-1244
Dark blue with tan leather interior
Engine: eight cylinder, 384.84ci, 135bhp at 3,200rpm; Gearbox: four speed manual; Brakes; four wheel hydraulic drum; Suspension: semi- elliptic leaf springs front and rear. Left hand drive.
The cars that bore Walter P. Chrysler's name were known for their high quality, impressive performance, and with the introduction of the CG Eight Imperial, their stunning design. LeBaron was strongly influenced by Alan Leamy's gorgeous L-29 Cord. The 1932 Imperial however manages to look even better. Designer Herb Weissinger streched the wheelbase 9 inches to 145 inches, put a tilt on the radiator, streched the hood all the way back to the low V windshield to give it its "mile long" look, but most importantly the '32 Imperial was set very low to the ground.
The pinnacle of the various LeBaron body styles was the sporty Convertible Roadster. The flat folding top creates quite a fluid design. Only 28 examples of the LeBaron Convertible Roadster were produced and far fewer genuine examples like the one offered here exist today.
Walter P. Chrysler was always very keen on the fact that his cars should perform and the CG was no exception. The straight eight engine propelled the cars to an impressive 96 miles per hour top speed. Coupled with the unusual, (for the time), four speed transmission and relatively low center of gravity, the imperial is known by collectors to be one of the better overall handling cars of the era.
This example has spent the majority of its life in the Eastern United States. Since the 1950s it has been shown and driven regularly by enthusiastic Chrysler collectors. In more recent years it has benefitted from a complete body-off, nut and bolt restoration by noted restorer, Richard Fass and at his shop "Stone Barn Restorations". Since then the Chrysler has been a Junior and 100 point Senior winner in the Classic Car Club of America. The finish and high standard of the workmanship is incredible, and it is the finest restored Chrysler we have ever had the pleasure of offering.
