The leafy border of the truncation, the angle of the head and the hairstyle, suggest a sculptor familiar with the works of Hiram Powers (i.e. Proserpine c. 1843). The sharply chiseled features, the dry treatment of the hair ornament and the more Victorian elements (cherubs, rosebuds, etc.) indicate an American sculptor working in Florence at the end of the 19th century.
