LATE 19TH CENTURY, ATTRIBUTED TO FALEINI BROTHERS

With a moulded octagonal top inlaid centrally with an octagonal cartouche in a conforming border elaborately inlaid with eight cartouches each representative of the arts and sciences each divided by grotesque masks issuing faux strands of pearls from their mouths surrounded by a further band of cartouches, on a later foliate scrolling base carved with drapery in massive paw feet

Lot Essay

Little is known of the Faleini workshop of Firenze other than the few documented pieces (See G. Wannenes, Mobili D'Italia, 1987, p.207, fig.406). They are most well known for their marquetry in the Rennaissance style incorporating various woods, ivory and mother-of-pearl.
