Each seated figure well carved with broad snout, mouth open to show teeth, curly beard, brows and mane and upswept tail with further curls and segmented tufts trailing onto the back, one with a front paw resting atop a ball, the other with one paw restraining a playful cub, the rectangular plinths carved on one long side with a lion and cub in a landscape and on the reverse with a pair of deer, the narrow ends variously carved with a qilin, a peach in an offering dish and a hare, with bamboo-carved corners, the lower section carved in imitation of a stand with foliate aprons, chips
