Lot Essay

For a slightly smaller, though similarly painted, Yongzheng-marked basin see John Ayers, The Baur Collection, Geneva, 1976, vol. IV, A642. The Baur example, however, has coral-red and black vertical stripes and horizontal yellow braided bands. The interior bottom also imitates wood grain (faux bois)

Another deeper basin with wood grain painted on the exterior is illustrated by Liu Liang-yu, Ch'ing Official and Popular Wares, Taiwan, 1991, p. 129
