A LARGE CARVED CELADON-GLAZED CYLINDRICAL BRUSHPOT
KANGXI

The sides carved and incised with a bold pattern of lotus scroll, the large blossoms surrounded by a dense ground of small scrolled leaves, all under an attractive glaze of sea-green tone, the mouth rim glazed white and the interior glazed a very pale celadon, the slighlty domed base with three large spur marks on a white-glazed outer border surrounding a wide unglazed ring encircling the glazed, recessed center, small kiln fault to foot rim

Lot Essay

Examples of brushpots or scroll holders of this large size in this technique and glaze appear to be rare. Compare a smaller brushpot (18.8cm. diam.) decorated with peony, rather than lotus as in the present lot, illustrated in Porcelains from the Tianjin Municipal Museum, Cultural Relics Publishing House, 1993, no. 126
