1957 TED WILLIAMS FLANNEL JERSEY
A 1957 home flannel jersey worn by Hall of Famer Ted Williams during that season in which he hit .388. That was the closest any player had come to hitting .400 since Williams himself hit .406 in 1941. In 1957 Williams was named Major League Player of the Year by the Sporting News and twice hit three home runs in a game. Also in 1957 he reached base 17 consecutive times and hit home runs in four consecutive at bats. During his outstanding career he won the triple crown twice and was named American League Most Valuable Playe twice. The jersey has number nine on the back and the words "RED SOX" on the front. The jersey is autographed under the word "SOX". The McAuliffe jersey has Williams' name and the year and size stitched in the front tail. It is in excellent condition with a few minor holes from wear. This jersey was consigned by the Williams family, the first such jersey ever offered at auction. It is accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Ted Williams himself, also a first. An important jersey with impeccable provenance.
