W.H. Gerdts and R. Burke have written about this painting, "In his more intimate Strawberries in Landscape, the observation of the strawberries is so precise that several are included that have not fully ripened. Care was taken to paint each berry individually, down to the last seed...Here, too, the extent of the landscape is rather unusual--not only a patch of ground upon which the fruit rests, but trees, sky, and clouds as well; but Lacroix, as we have noted, was a landscape painter as well as a still-life specialist."
