Lot Essay

Elizabeth Meade Creighton was the daughter of David and Susannah Meade of Virginia. The Meade family was well established among the Virginia planters, and David Meade was a member of the House of Burgesses. In 1805 Elizabeth Meade married William Creighton (1778-1851), one of the group of Virginians who brought about Ohio's statehood. In 1813 he was elected to Congress, serving as a member of the House of Representatives from Ohio. Elizabeth Meade Creighton presided over an elegant and genteel home, which preserved the finest traditions of Virginia.
