Lot Essay

Mrs. Asquith was born Margot Tennant and lived from 1864 to 1945. She married Herbert Henry Asquith, 1st Earl of Oxford and Asquith. Mr. Asquith became a British Prime Minister and through him his wife became Countess of Oxford and Asquith. Mrs. Asquith was one of "The Souls," an important literary and aesthetic group in England around the turn of the century.
