Lot Essay

Mistinguett, the stage name for Jeanne Bourgeois (1875-1956), was a Parisian performer of great renown. In the era of such stars as the American Josephine Baker, Mistinguett was a French born heroine of the cabaret stage. She appeared in revues, often of her own design, at l'Eldorado, Moulin-Rouge, the Folies-Bergère and the Casino du Paris. Her most noted songs included Mon Homme (1920), J'en ai marre (1921), La Java (1922), Ça c'est Paris (1926) and C'est Vrai (1935).
