Lot Essay

The present work can be compared to a work sold at Christie's, Amsterdam, Nov. 13, 1995, lot 149. The signature 'De Jonge/Neefs' on that painting indicates its execution prior to the death of Pieter Neeffs I in 1656. A second signed and dated work of 1659 by both Pieter Neeffs II and Jan van der Hecke was offered at Christie's, London, June 15, 1984, lot 124.
