Half-Eagle, 1842D, large date, large letters (Breen, Encyclopedia, 6541), almost uncirculated, much luster remains, a noted rarity from the Dahlonega Mint, Akers (Volume IV, page 112) called it, "the rarest Dahlonega Mint Half-Eagle, more rare in all grades than the more highly regarded 1861D"; Breen concurred with Akers calling it, "prohibitively rare above EF"
