SUPERB 1852O EAGLE
Eagle, 1852O, variety with hollow ring above second vertical stripe on the reverse shield (Breen, Encyclopedia, 6902), some small marks, mint state or thereabouts with reflective fields and strong luster, highly important in this state of preservation, collecting branch mint coins was not in vogue in the 19th Century and the survival of this specimen is probably a matter of chance, rather than intention, David Akers noted, "almost uncirculated specimens are very rare and to the best of my knowledge, the 1852O in unknown in strictly uncirculated condition" (Volume V, Eagles; page 58), Douglas Winter (New Orleans Mint Gold Coins: 1839-1909, page 123) stated, "no mint state coins are known to exist"
